In Florida, Trump's stronghold, Basel Miami Beach reassures an market in search of new benchmarks

REPORTAGE – In a post-election climate in the United States, the largest American contemporary fair closed on Sunday with a generally positive result. Enough to comfort the rich collectors acquired by the future president but to worry minorities and artists, while the sector undergoes a readjustment.

In the post-election context of Donald Trump, reassuring for some, worrying for others, Art Basel Miami Beach, the modern and contemporary art fair, still popular with collectors eager to sunbathe in winter and taste the party closed its doors on Sunday evening on a rather positive note. Enough to comfort the market after the plunge in the major autumn sales in New York, a barometer of a difficult year on the economic and geopolitical level which caused volumes and amounts to fall (1.3 billion dollars, against 2. 1 in 2023 and 3.2 in 2022). On the other hand, the fairs fared better. Like Art Basel , which, in October, relied on high-level quality as if it were the last chance offer before the tumble.
