This model of chest on legs is part of the Boulle furniture represented in the collection of New Designs for furniture and bronze and marquetry works invented and engraved by André Charles Boulle published by the cabinetmaker at Mariette around 1710, several copies of which have reached us, preserved in the Library of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, at the Kunstbibliothek in Berlin or at the Wallace Collection in London. It is similar to the “Toilet chest mounted on its foot” represented on the third engraved plate, a plate which takes, in reverse order, a large red chalk drawing by André-Charles Boulle, theStudy for tortoiseshell marquetry furniture preserved by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
