This is the very latest monumental work by the artist Cyril Maccioni: “A Cuppulata”. A giant Klein blue turtle with a peach skin effect, topped with golden butterflies.

The piece was commissioned by the town hall of Vignale, in Haute-Corse, and was inaugurated this Saturday, October 12. “One day, I called Cyril and told him that I was terribly proud to have an article of his talent on the communeexplains Charlotte Terrighi, mayor of the town. I wanted to share this pride with everyone and I asked him for a statue. This is how the challenge was launched. And a few months later, here we are with our Hermann’s tortoise.

The choice of animal is not a coincidence. Hermann’s tortoise is emblematic of the small town of 174 inhabitants. It therefore imposed itself on the artist as well as on the city councilor. “It’s a species that is part of my bestiary, underlines Cyril Maccioni. I have already addressed it in the context of public awareness. I try to show people that these are threatened, endangered animals.

Cut from a block of epoxy resin, mixed with fiberglass, it took the artist eight months and 1,500 hours of work to create this three-meter-wide work.

This installation is the first of 12 statues which will see the light of day in the village next year.
