Northern Lights, the incredible photos of this Lorraine photographer “no need to go to the ends of the earth to see them”

photographer Azz-Eddine Zouaydi has been hunting the Northern Lights for two years around the Lorraine capital. His latest photos, taken on the night of Thursday October 10 to Friday October 11, 2024, explode with color and strangeness. He confides in his passion, and his nights tracking solar flares in the sky.

My world is night” smiles the photographer. During the day he earns his living with wedding photos. But he reveals himself when the sky darkens, and the magic of the Northern Lights appears. “This year, the conditions are excellent in Lorraine, solar activity is at its highest and I spend a lot of time first observing them, then capturing them” says Azz-Eddine, delighted to share his photos.

On the night of Thursday October 10 to Friday October 11, 2024, he followed his intuition: “the weather window was narrow due to rain. But I gave it a try. I was all alone on the hill of Sion, whereas usually there are many of us on the site wanting to take photos“. Around 10:30 p.m. the sky opens, for a few hours: “my patience was rewarded, I took long exposure shots, around 15 seconds, to freeze the moment“. But the auroras were visible to the naked eye, not as distinctly, but impossible to miss: “the red and pink dominants were magical. My photo at the foot of the basilica has a mystical aspect, I am very happy with it“.

The photographer then pushed towards the plains, and captured other images, which transcend the Lorraine countryside: “no need to push to the North Pole, we have something to see at home, that’s also what motivates us, everything is within sight“.

Passionate about the sky and space, Azz-Eddine Zouaydi often goes out at night to immortalize the Northern Lights.

Azz-Eddine has still planned a trip to Ireland soon, to try other photos of solar flares. In the meantime, his most beautiful photos are updated regularly on his networks.
