Vernacular architectural production at the center of a conference in Rabat

Participants in a conference on vernacular architecture highlighted, Friday in Rabat, the importance of this qualified architectural production, appreciated for its diversity and richness, its specificities and singularities adapted to various environments and contexts. During this meeting, initiated by the National School of Architecture (ENA), the speakers explored the benefits and virtues of a practice which proves to be eco-responsible, aiming to make it an invaluable source of inspiration for new constructions.

On this occasion, the director of the ENA, Abdelhadi Ibnyahya, indicated that this meeting is an opportunity to reflect together on how this architecture, rich in meaning and heritage, can become an essential vector for inclusive territorial development. and durable. It is about questioning the means of preserving and revitalizing this living heritage while integrating innovative solutions that respond to contemporary needs and developments in the kingdom, underlined Ibnyahya.

The goal, he maintained, is to contribute to the development of knowledge on vernacular architectures, train architectural students and doctoral students through research and produce knowledge, in particular several scientific articles and communications which have been produced by research teams.

For his part, Hassane Kharmich, professor of higher education at ENA, indicated that this meeting concludes a fruitful research project which was developed by a team of teacher-researchers accompanied by students and doctoral students. architects, as part of the “Ibn Khaldoun” Program, initiated by the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (CNRST).

This conference, he said, is an opportunity to bring together renowned researchers, experts and partners, with a view to mainly addressing local know-how and constructive techniques, while analyzing their organization, use , adaptability, evolution and sustainability.

For his part, Samuel Deprez, professor of planning and urban planning at the University of , believes that this conference, bringing together researchers from the two universities, is the start of a longer collaboration between the two establishments. The objective is to compare perspectives to ultimately see how Morocco and are interested in this heritage and its development, he added.

This scientific conference is organized in partnership with its doctoral study center “Architecture and associated disciplines”, its LabHAUT research structure and its UNESCO Chair and in collaboration with the National Center for Scientific Research and the University of Le Havre Normandy.
