Street art: 250 works by Banksy exhibited in Tarnos until October 20

In the construction site of the HLM Grandola residence in Tarnos (Landes), 250 works by street artist Banksy are to be discovered. Arranged on fences or construction site gates, in an unadorned scenography, the record covers, T-Shirts, stencils, photos, drawings, postcards, magazine covers follow one another. We see the evolution of the creations of the English artist whose real identity we do not know. Known for his stencils offered to passers-by in European cities, he also responded to orders. The music group Blur notably entrusted him with the cover of its album “Think Tank”.

A chance meeting with the artist

This exhibition commissioned by the COL, XL Habitat and the City of Tarnos, promoters of the Grandola residence, was created by Banksy Modeste Collection, an endowment fund co-led by François Berardino, known as Béru. This street artist developed a passion for Banksy after meeting him in London in 2007. He visited his studio and left with two drawings, offered by the artist. A few months later, he discovered that these drawings were the work of Banksy, an artist now listed on the art market.

In agreement with the artist who uses the money from his sales for humanitarian causes (he notably financed a ship to help migrants), the exhibition must be free and be held in unexpected places. All works are validated by the artist himself and ensure the Banksy Modeste Collection.
