The draft organic law relating to the strike subject to new amendments

The Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, announced that the draft organic law defining the conditions and modalities for exercising the right to strike will be subject to additional amendments to the House of Advisors.

A text currently being developed

In a statement to the press, following the meeting of the Committee on Education and Cultural and Social Affairs in the House of Advisors, the minister stressed that the adoption of the organic bill by the House of Representatives marked an important step in the legislative process. However, he clarified that the text remains incomplete and does not yet represent the final version.

Consultation with social partners

It was agreed with the unions represented in the House of Councilors to begin negotiations on the bill from Tuesday January 7, in parallel with its examination by the committee concerned, scheduled for the following Thursday. Discussions in plenary session will begin on January 15.

Mr. Sekkouri affirmed that the government and the unions share a common desire to achieve an organic law that meets the needs of workers and other categories concerned. The minister also expressed the government’s availability to work in collaboration with the House of Advisors to finalize a text in line with the realities and aspirations of contemporary Morocco.

The draft organic law relating to the strike, as amended, was recently adopted by a majority by the House of Representatives. This text constitutes a significant step forward in the legal framework of the right to strike, ensuring a balance between workers’ rights and the economic and social imperatives of the country.
