Caussade. How not to stagnate with Pierre Valaincourt

The watercolorist with Pierre Valaincourt is a regular at watercolor courses organized by the Aquarelle-en-Quercy association chaired by Sonia Mercadier. Last weekend, he was present again in Caussade, in the Maurice-Chevalier room, surrounded by around fifteen trainees, some of whom did not hesitate to travel from , or to follow the advice always informed by the master, unconditional fan of letting go.

Originally from the Arcachon basin, Pierre Valaincourt, a renowned watercolorist, excels in watercolors representing boats and seascapes, but also in scenes of life highlighting characters in the city. During the course, each step is explained, with a demonstration: “The difficulty is to ensure that this black area is not too dark so that we can guess the buildings in the darkness”, Pierre explained to his students by playing with the brush between water and pigments. A student commented: “Sometimes we stagnate, then we float before drowning”, a well-found metaphor when we know the essential role of water in the creation of a watercolor.

The next course will welcome, on Saturday March 1 and Sunday March 2, 2025, another regular from the city of hats, Jean-Claude Papeix, who had the chance to be the first guest of honor at the Watercolor Salon in Caussade in 2011.
