Videographer Tibo InShape has become France’s most followed personality on YouTube.

He dethrones Squeezie by accumulating more than 18.9 million subscribers on Google’s online video platform.

Criticized for his positions, the influencer made himself known by sharing content focused on fitness, where a taste for effort, humor, emotion and patriotism combine.

The new king of YouTube in France is him! Influencer Tibo InShape, whose real name is Thibaud Delapart, became the most followed French YouTuber on the American platform on Sunday. At 32, the Toulouse native dethrones Squeezie by accumulating more than 18.9 million subscribers. The muscular influencer made himself known at the end of the 2000s by sharing content focused on fitness, where a taste for effort, humor, emotion but also patriotism combine.

This great adventure began in 2008, the year I enthusiastically began bodybuilding. During an end-of-study internship in the United States, I discovered the world of fitness, and in particular gyms open 24/7“, says the influencer on his online sales site. “On my return, I decided to share my experience on bodybuilding with my friends” and “to simply put my advice and exercises online on YouTube videos“, says the internet star who also has 11.5 million subscribers on TikTok and 9.1 million on Instagram.

His meetings with notable personalities, such as the testimony of a hostage of a terrorist, and his “immersion” reports to discover professions that are difficult to recruit – prison guard, embalmer, etc. – also made it successful. Today, all professional sectors in need of candidates to swell their ranks are appealing to the darling of young Internet users to make themselves attractive.

In 2019, the government called on him to promote the Universal National Service (SNU), notably with a sponsored video, immersed in Guyana with Gabriel Attal, Secretary of State in charge of the file at the time.

An often criticized YouTuber

With his huge audience, YouTuber Tibo InShape – literally “Tibo in shape”, in French – launched his own brand. In addition to subscriptions for training programs, the influencer markets a whole range of food supplements, as well as sports equipment, accessories and clothing on its online sales site. However, the tank-top influencer is regularly accused of promoting conservative, even far-right, positions. He had to apologize several times after boasting about a bodybuilding session by Vladimir Putin, a video since removed, or treating subjects like depression lightly.

Don’t give a damn about your depression, don’t give a damn about your excuses, don’t give a damn about your little broken heart, don’t give a damn about your mental pressure (…) stop being a piece of shit, stop being a person without any motivation (…) get up now, right away!“, he urged in a video on TikTok in 2022. Faced with the outcry caused by his comments, the YouTuber in the tank top made amends the next day. “Depression is a real illness, it’s difficult to overcome but there are solutions. And that’s really what I wanted to show through TikTok. So I want to apologize to people who misinterpreted my TikTok“, he admitted.

Announced as one of the headliners of the “Aux Jeux streamers” competition organized last April by France Télévisions, involving internet personalities, he was finally removed from the list of participants. Streamer Baghera Jones herself threatened to withdraw, pointing the finger at “actions and/or remarks of certain participants“.

From his first exchanges with the online entertainment giant Webedia, co-producer of the event, videographer Adrien Nougaret, alias ZeratoR, told AFP that he had drawn attention to the profile “polarizing and divisive” by Tibo InShape.

But it is also thanks to its frantic use of “Shorts”, short videos inspired by the TikTok format, that Tibo InShape owes its meteoric rise on Google’s video platform. Lucas Hauchard aka Squeezie was until now the undisputed master of French-speaking YouTube. The 28-year-old videographer returned to the platform on May 18, after an unprecedented four-month break. Until now, he had never stopped feeding his channel, launched from his teenage bedroom in January 2011, and combining humor and video games.
