Since October 16, 2024 and for a period of nine months, Bénédicte Gady will act as interim director of the Decorative Arts museums (Decorative Arts Museum, Nissim de Camondo Museum, Camondo School, Ateliers du Carrousel and library). She succeeds Christine Macel in this position, now scientific and artistic advisor to Johannes Huth, president of the board of directors of the institution.
Graduated from Sciences Po Paris in 1994, Bénédicte Gady then studied art history. Chief heritage curator, she is also a researcher and exhibition curator. A graduate of the National Heritage Institute, doctor in art history in 2006, this specialist in Charles Le Brun was also a resident at the Villa Medici in Rome and saw her work awarded prizes by the French Academy; other of his projects have notably been supported by the Getty Foundation in Los Angeles or the National Research Agency.
Before joining the decorative arts museums, she spent eight years at the Louvre, in the graphic arts department where she was a scientific advisor. She then took charge of the MAD’s Drawings, Wallpapers and Photographs collection and, in 2018, that of the Graphic Arts department. She is at the origin of numerous exhibitions there, including “Drawing without reserve” in 2020 and “Histoires de photographs” in 2021. In 2025, she will curate two other exhibitions in the museum: “Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, decorator” (March 5 to June 8, 2025) and “Nicolas Pineau and the factory of rocaille art” (March 5 to May 18, 2025).
Bénédicte Gady, whom the museum describes as “ open and unifying personality », has also been responsible for numerous projects in the institution: she is at the origin of a new consultation room and exhibition, which should open its doors at the MAD in March 2025. She has also launched a project aimed at working on heritage funds using artificial intelligence, or even the creation of the Circle of Graphic Arts (association part of the MAD patronage, chaired by Lionel Sauvage and created in 2022) and its annual gala.
