Each season of “The Bridgertons Chronicles” traces the romance of a couple from the series. And each season, the main actor becomes the center of interest of fans but also of American producers. Regé-Jean Page, who played Simon in season 1, is one of the names that regularly comes up as possible interpreters of the new James Bond. Since the second season, Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton) has been filming in Hollywood. And in the third, available on Netflix from May 16, 2024, it is the turn of Luke Newton, aka Colin, to be at the heart of the new episodes with his partner Nicola Coughlan.

How can you summarize the evolution of your character before the start of this 3rd season?

Colin has evolved a lot since the first episode of our series. We find it in a more virile version. He is no longer a teenager but a man thanks to his multiple travels. He finally found how to give meaning to his existence, even though we had often seen him hesitate since the beginning of “The Bridgerton Chronicles”. Colin has always been close to Penelope even though he said he never considered her as a potential wife. In these new episodes, he will have the courage and honesty to express his feelings at the risk of being rejected. Many viewers can relate to him. We have all had a purely friendly relationship with another person in our lives out of fear of expressing our love for them and losing that friendship.

What about your bond with Nicola Coughlan who plays Penelope Featherington?

We have been friends for several years thanks to the series. We met four years ago, before filming “The Bridgerton Chronicles” began, and we understood that we had the same need to work hard but also the same sense of humor. We spent entire days rehearsing together with the choreographers to master the dance sequences which are very important in the episodes when everyone gets together for these big celebrations of the time. It is this complicity that allowed us to make our characters interesting on screen.

Isn’t it weird then to simulate sexual scenes with a friend?

No, on the contrary, I find that our friendship allowed us to be able to indulge in intimate scenes with complete confidence. Simulating the love scenes came very naturally and we had a lot of fun filming these sequences, to the point of breaking an element of the set while trying to change position, that’s telling you!

So the rumors that you are in love with each other are false?

Absolutely, but I think we can be satisfied with our work if everyone believes in it to the point of spreading such a rumor (laughing).
