After Jean Reno the actor, make way for Jean Reno the writer. The 75-year-old actor is indeed launching into the deep end of literature with Emma (XO editions), a first novel with a thriller feel. In this book, the protagonist with a peaceful life is suddenly thrown into the ruthless world of espionage.

But this thriller also includes several erotic scenes. And Léa Salamé did not fail to return to it with the author, guest this May 15 on the France Inter morning show. “Great writers say these are the hardest scenes to write”says the journalist, who then asks Jean Reno if he took “enjoy writing these sex scenes? »

“Don’t oversell” things according to Jean Reno

A question to which Jean Reno answered in the affirmative, explaining that he wanted a book “romantic”. “You shouldn’t put a magnifying glass in your head when it comes to the love scene,” says the actor. “We must not exaggerate, forgive me, the details. It’s stupid what I’m saying, but you shouldn’t oversell. You have to be in reality. When we love, there are things we do. And things you don’t do when you don’t love”, he explains.

“When it’s true love, you have to let yourself go into the relationship of the skin with the other”

Beyond this detailed point on the erotic scenes of the book, Jean Reno mainly returned to his writing process and the way in which this new adventure began. “I was busy with other people’s stories, all the time”he says, referring to his numerous film shoots.

Writing started during Covid

But one element will disrupt everything, his life as well as that of the whole world. “Covid was this silence that put me in a… not good state. I discovered that I lived around a word, which is the word “project”. And there, I no longer had any projects so I no longer existed. So I started writing”explains Jean Reno.

The development of this book was ultimately almost as long and tedious as that of a film. Jean Reno explains in fact that he has a lot “ruminated”often going back and forth in the story. “I don’t plan too much. I try to follow the character. When I have doubts, I tell”, details the actor. After four years of work, Emma see the day. Jean Reno promises a “captivating, moving and suspenseful adventure novel”a bit like his roles in the cinema.
