Melissa Theuriau: Jamel Debbouze’s wife refuses to host the TF1 news, the channel’s bosses in shock

In 2007, the TF1 channel worked to find a joker journalist in the famous journalist Claire Chazal. The first channel that wishes to breathe a breath of fresh air into television news, think of Melissa Theuriau to replace Claire Chazal.

At the time, Jamel Debbouze’s wife worked on the LCI channel, which belongs to the TF1 group. A year earlier, he was already asked to become Claire Chazal’s joker to take the helm of Europe’s leading news newspaper. Against all expectations, the journalist refuses this coveted position.

It is true that for many journalists, presenting the 8 p.m. news, especially on TF1, is considered THE dream job. This is why Claire Chazal has not moved from her chair since 1991.

Melissa Theuriau at TF1: this surprising refusal

Faced with Melissa Theuriau’s categorical refusal, it was ultimately Laurence Ferrari who was named Claire Chazal’s replacement but the latter did not stay long because an opportunity presented itself for her within the Canal+ group.

While Claire Chazal still occupies the titular position, the news boss at the time, Robert Namias, struggles to find her a major joker. He then sets his sights on a young 27-year-old journalist from the channel’s training center, Mélissa Theuriau.

As our colleagues at TV Mag point out, the young woman had at the time, everything that the channel is looking for : a proud appearance, a pretty voice, a hypnotizing look and perfect speech. The journalist is approached and seems to be convinced at first.

Mélissa Theuriau says “no” to the leaders of TF1

For several months, I had been wondering how to get Mélissa Theuriau to participate in the life of TF 1, but there was no question of Laurence Ferrari’s position. Our goal is to have high-level presenters. Mélissa is coming and I am delighted” declared Robert Namias in May 2006 in Le Figaro.

Finally, Mélissa Theuriau hesitates. Cohabitation with Claire Chazal, who was said at the time to be anxious at the idea of being replaced, looked rather complicated. So, the young journalist refuses and announces that her “ambitions lie elsewhere”. This is the first time that someone dares to say “no” to the managers of TF1…

And the sentence is final since she is immediately fired from the LCI channel. “I found myself outside with my boxes, and my badge no longer worked” she revealed years later before also confiding: “I felt that I did not have the shoulders for this position, I had fear of disappointing.”
