Of course there were book stands, whether comics, regional or world books, biographies or even novels. But also beautiful pieces from the last century, such as items from the Val-Saint-Lambert crystal factories, mannequins, iron boxes, marbles, toys.

Lovers of records, vinyls like in the good old days of the turntable, or postcards, have found their happiness on some astonishing stalls, notably on that of Anne-France, on rue Delpéenne, perhaps the best stocked with a superb music box.

No, I’m not selling it, it’s to beautify my stand, explains the Hutoise. I’m not a regular. I kept the notebook from my last flea market, it was in 2008.”

On the stall next to it, food products from the Basque Country: “I am Belgian and my husband is Basque, says Marjorie. We come to Huy three times a year. At the wine fair in February, the quays flea market in May and at the Sainte-Catherine market in November.”

Another very attractive stand, that of Hutois painters. There are around thirty paintings created by Lecrenier, Mohr, Renwa, the Riffon brothers and Genot. It was at the time when these Hutois artists went together to the region on Sundays to paint.

“The price of those that I present here varies between 30 and 150 €explains the seller, but I have others at home. ”

Everything takes place in a superb atmosphere, the curious wander between the stands, like that of the costume jewelry which catches the eye. These are the achievements of Hutoise Marie-Charlotte Bartier.

“I make them in the evening, explains the craftswoman. For 15 years I have been scouring the markets of Huy, Andenne, Wanze, Amay and Bomal and sometimes the flea markets and Christmas markets. It’s my part-time job, the other I work for service vouchers. It’s not easy, but I’m free and I love what I do. In the morning, it’s quiet for me, because it’s usually the time of the second-hand dealers going around, but my customers arrive during the afternoon, they are the Sunday strollers. ”
