MUSIC – Disappointment in Manchester. Only two hours after the cancellation of the concert of American rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, fans of Olivia Rodrigo learned that the shows scheduled for May 3 and 4 as part of her tour Guts were also canceled. A disappointment confirmed by the room itself via a press release published on social networks.

“Due to a technical issue with the venues, the planned performances of Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS World Tour on May 3 and 4 are postponed”said Co-op Live on X (formerly Twitter). “Ticket holders can either keep their tickets or get a refund at the point of purchase” specifies the tweet.

The 21-year-old singer expressed her disappointment via a story on her Instagram account. “I’ve had a great time in so far and I’m so disappointed that we won’t be able to play in Manchester due to ongoing technical issues”she explained, adding that she is working with her team to reschedule these concerts.

A series of canceled shows at the Co-op Live arena

The cancellation of Olivia Rodrigo’s concerts adds to a series of setbacks for the new Manchester venue. Since its opening, the arena, with a capacity of 23,500 seats, has been the scene of several problems, disrupting the holding of numerous events.

For example, the performances of actor Peter Kay, initially planned to inaugurate the venue at the end of April, had to be postponed twice, and are now scheduled for May 23 and 24.

Another major incident, the concert of musician Rick Astley where nearly 4,000 tickets were canceled barely an hour before the start of the show. The room invoked “critical procedure tests” as the reason for this reduction in event capacity, causing outrage among aggrieved spectators.

Furthermore, the recent resignation of Gary Roden, the former director of the arena, follows a barrage of criticism concerning his management of the venue. As reported by several British media outlets, his disparaging remarks toward other concert venues, as well as his opposition to a ticket tax intended to fund improvements, have exacerbated tensions around the new arena.
