Françoise Barbier-Damiette, the owner of the Château de Lantis in Dégagnac, invites you to come and discover the works of Soline, painter, illustrator and author. The exhibition will be visible in the guard room until September 28. Admission is free and independent of the visit to the castle.

Soline was born in in 1961 and very quickly her passion for art led her to attend her first art school at the age of 14. She then continued long studies on the history of art which led her to a doctorate after years of research on magical art. Soline fell in love with the Lot thirty years ago, and has never left since. She lives in the charming village of Saint-Paul-de-Loubressac, 20 km south of Cahors. She started with abstraction, then free figuration imposed itself through informal landscapes erased, destructured, water and stones, chasms, faults, trees…

We met her shortly before the Heritage Days, and she told us: “Challenges are at the heart of my work: combining abstraction with figuration, working silk like a wall, paper like a canvas, using mediums a contrario, painting bark with stone, stone with wood… I create my paintings from natural pigments, simple earths and chalks found at my feet, in my region, ashes, plants…”

She has already produced magazine illustrations, book covers and published two essays, a novel and children’s albums, text and drawings, as well as several art booklets including one on the practice of batik. Throughout the year, Soline creates performances (music, painting and poetry) in association with musicians and storytellers. Since 2012, her studio has been open for classes and workshops.

Lantis Castle is open from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tel: 05 65 41 11 47 or 06 32 96 00 89. Closed on Tuesdays.
