JAEGER ART presents the first solo exhibition of Bastiaan Woudt in Germany. The gallery will present different bodies of work in an exhibition entitled Rhythm, some of which have never been shown to the public before.
Bastiaan Woudt, born in the Netherlands in 1987, is best known for his iconic portraits, characterized by strong contrasts and a monochrome peculiarity that quickly earned him international recognition in just 13 years.
Inspired by the masters of 20th century photography, such as Irving Penn or Richard Avedon, he combines their tradition of classic photography with innovative and contemporary elements. The result is timeless photographs with a “contemporary” touch that captivate the eye with their clarity and sophistication.
Woudt began his career as a self-taught photographer and quickly became a master in the use of light and shadow. His work is characterized by an unmistakable aesthetic, shaped by both minimalist and surrealist influences. This fascinating combination gives the sculptural portraits an unmistakable recognition value. His works are regularly presented in renowned galleries, international art fairs and major auction houses – selling for record amounts. His first solo exhibition “Twist” was presented at the Kranenburgh Museum in Bergen in 2022.
In his current project “Echo from Beyond”, Bastiaan Woudt explores the boundaries of art and photography and extensively studies artificial intelligence and its role in art, focusing primarily on the symbiotic relationship between human creativity and machine learning.
He fuses his photographs with the possibilities of artificial intelligence and transforms this series into a multimedia project. Previously unimaginable images are created, fueled by his thoughts, experiences and the media he consumes. This fusion of elements creates a unique visual language that goes beyond traditional photography and opens a window into a world of new possibilities and discoveries.
