Moissac. Dominique Vial and Benoît Noulet: from canvas to paper

Until May 19, the gallery workshop at 13, boulevard Pierre-Delbrel is once again in exhibition mode. It will be almost a year since this place with its carefully dosed light has served as a showcase for the pictorial works of two Moissagais artists with strong personal universes: Dominique Vial and Benoît Noulet.

Opening onto an old-style boulevard with its art deco facades and chestnut trees, on this famous path from stone to water which connects the old medieval center to the canal and the river, walkers and passers-by have the leisure to admire the high-level work of the two friends in the window and stop there on Saturdays and Sundays in the morning.

The two painters have rearranged the exhibition walls by replacing the large formats that characterize them with more modest-sized productions made on paper, allowing them to deliver new facets of their respective talents tinged with dreaminess.

From filling to line

Dominique Vial has chosen to go back in time to his inspiration, with a veritable timeline of creations spanning from 2017 to 2024. We then perceive all this work of deconstruction and stripping bare that the artist is pursuing. From filling to line, from a relatively closed universe to a chromatic movement in perpetual expansion, we realize here the evolution of a work as alive as its progenitor.

Benoît Noulet has taken another angle of attack, with recent creations raising an artistic challenge.

No more brush, hello naturalist photography kneaded and tweaked in image processing, for small frescoes where red and black dominate, an allegory of the war currently being played out in Ukraine. Benoît Noulet has abandoned his famous pointillism and his brushes, but we can clearly see his signature and his inimitable atmosphere.
