“The results are there,” assures the Haute-Garonne prefecture in a press release. An “XXL net square” operation was launched in Haute-Garonne on Tuesday April 2. During this, several hundred police officers and gendarmes were mobilized daily throughout the department. The objective of this operation placed under the authority of the prefect and the public prosecutor: to strengthen the fight against delinquency and especially drug trafficking. Five weeks later, it is time to take stock.

What is the outcome of the fight against delinquency and drug trafficking?

First of all, nearly 21,550 people and 15,250 vehicles were checked by the police who were also mobilized within public transport, particularly in the metro. During their operations, they were able to seize “weapons, narcotics, criminal assets and illegally imported products such as cartons of cigarettes”.

In all, more than 400 people were arrested. In detail, 212 were placed in police custody, including 131 for offenses against drug legislation, 21 for attacks on persons and 41 for attacks on property, and 7 were referred to the Toulouse judicial court, including 52 placed under committal order. 270 criminal fixed fines (AFD) for possession of narcotics were issued. In addition to this, 463 fines were issued during road safety operations against urban rodeos.

Checks on businesses and evacuations of illegal camps

State services have also carried out two business control operations in the Mirail district which revealed breaches, fraud or offenses. More than 52 businesses were inspected and 18 closed administratively. The prefecture also fought, with Toulouse Town Hall, against the installation of an illegal “market” on Place Abbal.

Finally, the police have evacuated two illegal camps, located on chemin de Gabardie, on April 4. According to state services, “eight people were taken into care and five families refused any support”.
