From April 14 to 21, 2024, Agen welcomed the French Youth Chess Championshipa major event which brought together more than 1700 participants. THE Lot department was well represented with 16 young playersdivided between the qualifiers for the main championship and the participants in the parallel opens.

Cassandre Itier, a rising star of the Prayssac clubcaptured attention by ranking 4e in the U8 categorya result which opened the doors to performance plan of the French Chess Federation. This performance is the culmination of a week of intense competitions where young people had the opportunity not only to compete, but also to build links with other enthusiasts from all over France.

The event was also marked by the inspiring presence of the French women’s team, which brought an additional breath of motivation for all participants, particularly for the young girls from Lot who aspire to follow in the footsteps of these champions.

The performances of young people from Lot during this championship demonstrate the department’s commitment to the game of chess and underline the importance of supporting the development of this sport, which is gaining more and more young fans thanks to initiatives such as “failures at school” supported by the Lot department.
