(Agence Ecofin) – Tunisia, which has just revised its ambition for the share of renewable energies in electricity production to 35% instead of 30% in 2030, hopes to mobilize an annual investment of around $290 million to develop the energy projects planned within this framework.

The company specializing in renewable energies, Voltalia announced on May 8 that it had secured the establishment of a 130 MW photovoltaic project in Tunisia in the Gafsa region. Production will be equivalent to the consumption of more than 700,000 inhabitants. Voltalia explains that the project’s revenues will come from a 30-year electricity sales contract signed with STEG, the Tunisian public network operator.

We are delighted to have won this project. Thanks to attractive climatic conditions, favorable government policies and strong support from international financial institutions, Tunisia has great potential in terms of renewable energy in the short and long term. », commented Sébastien Clerc, general manager of Voltalia.

Tunisia wishes, through its energy strategy, to install a renewable energy capacity of 8,530 MW by 2035. In a country which has more than 300 days of sunshine per year, the solar potential is significant enough to support this ambition. .
